Self-hypnosis Workshops
I am running one day workshops,
teaching self-hypnosis skills, at the Traditional Acupuncture
Centre in Leamington Spa. The next work-shop is scheduled
for May 12th 2007.
Cost is £60.00. The day
runs from 10.30 - 16.30. Come along and you will learn how
to induce hypnosis in yourself and how to use this relaxed
state to help you make positive changes in your life.
Interested? Give me a call
to book a place. 0845 3731355 or 07836 679128
The workshops are held regularly,
get in touch if you can't make this one but would like to come to
one in the future.
Learn self hypnosis and
live longer
|
| There
is mounting evidence that self-hypnosis and hypnotherapy can
help you live longer.
The following medical study of hypnosis demonstrates how
powerful learning hypnosis from tapes or a course of
hypnotherapy treatment can really be...
A clinical trial of hypnosis
Leslie
Walker of Hull University studied 63 patients with
Hodgkin's disease or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. In his study
the patients who received relaxation exercises and hypnotherapy
plus standard chemotherapy lived longer.
In this clinical trial, the patients were split into
three groups. Group A were given relaxation tapes; Group B
also received relaxation tapes but had a course of
self hypnosis and hypnotherapy to reinforce the impact of
the tapes; Group C, however, received neither the tapes or
the hypnotherapy.
All three groups received standard chemotherapy and
anti-nausea medication.
Hypnosis and relaxation techniques prove effective
Walker and his team followed up the patients some 13
years after the diagnosis of cancer. It was clear that
patients who had received relaxation or relaxation and
self-hypnosis had lived significantly longer.
Patients in the relaxation and hypnosis group had
lived an average of 10.7 years longer after diagnosis. Those
patients who had used only the tapes lived 8.7 years.
Unfortunately, those patients who had received neither the
relaxation tapes or self hypnosis had lived just 7.8 years
after cancer diagnosis.
The reasons for the power of self hypnosis are unclear
How relaxation, hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis help to
increase survival rates is unclear.
Similar studies of cancer patients have also found self
relaxation, guided imagery and hypnosis can boost the levels
of vital 'killer T cells'. As yet, however, the medical
world and clinical trials have been unable to explain this
phenomena with increased rates of cancer treatment survival.

Suffering from depression?
In 1999 the World Health
Organisation stated that depression was the worlds fourth most
debilitating medical condition, behind heart disease, cancer, and
road traffic accidents. Furthermore
it predicted that by 2020 it will be the second most debilitating
condition.
Most
of us have either suffered from depression or know someone who has
or is.
Go to your doctor and you will
likely to be prescribed anti-depressant medication, such as prozac.
This may bring more or less immediate relief, but with side
effects and the possibility that when the medication stops the
depression returns.
Much research shows that depression
is ‘caused’ by a mix of psychological, social and biological
conditions.
Research is also showing that
depressed people recover more effectively with psychotherapeutic
techniques than with medication.
In particular, a combination of hypnotherapy and
cognitive behavioural counselling techniques is proving very
effective in lifting depression.
I HAVE BOTH COUNSELLING AND
HYPNOTHERAPY SKILLS AND CAN HELP DEPRESSED CLIENTS TO RECOVER
THEIR EQUILIBRIUM.

I recently ran a Stop Smoking
Group for employees of a local organisation. 12 people took
part in three sessions spread over three weeks, with a follow up
session three months later. Of the twelve participants three
stopped smoking immediately and completely; three stopped but had
started again, though much reduced, at the three month follow up.
Four had reduced the number of cigarettes they were smoking and
for two people there was little apparent effect. The
organisation were reasonably well pleased with this result, though
I was disappointed - anything less than 100% success is
disappointing! The results, however, are broadly in step with
research findings that indicate that hypnosis is successful in
effecting complete cessation in 25 - 35% of cases, which is higher
than most other methods of smoking cessation.

Earlier
this month I ran two successful seminars on 'Stress in the
Workplace,' for managers at a factory near Bristol. The
brief was to help managers identify stress within the work-force
and to identify how the Company might improve conditions in the
work place to minimise work related stress. Stress
is a major contributory factor in sickness, absenteeism, and low
morale within the work place, all of which have a detrimental
effect on productivity. It is also recognised that stress
constitutes a hazard at work and companies can be sued for
compensation by employees who suffer serious medical
problems caused by long-term stress. My advice to every
employer is to check what provisions you have for recognising and
and helping employees deal with stress in the work-place. I
can help you do this - go to my web page on Stress
Training.

I am
now a certified Diabetes Motivational Coach, having completed the
two day training course run by Devin
Hastings. Devin is himself diabetic and has devised the
course after using hypnosis to reduce his dependency upon drugs
and to maintain his focus in sticking to a healthy diet.
Many recently-diagnosed diabetics also experience depression -
which hypnosis is particularly good at alleviating (see
above.) So if you are diabetic and want some help in
managing the condition, get in touch.

I was in London yesterday for an excellent day's training with
Michael Yapko (a top American
doctor in
the field) on Depression. I learnt an awful lot about depression and
how hypnotherapy can help relieve depression. Indeed, hypnosis
combined with cognitive-behavioural counselling is a very
effective way of lifting depression. I can now offer this to
clients who may be depressed and who do not want to rely totally
on medication to improve the condition.
